CarStream Not Working?
As any app, CarStream could cause trouble sometimes due to bugs or policy updates from Google to their Android Auto system. Some of these issues can be troubleshooted with simple fixes and some may require undivided time and attention.
Here, we provide fixes for most common issues with CarStream.
CarStream Stopped working due to Android Auto Updates
The first solution for this issue was not updating the Android Auto and Play Services to make sure CarStream is working. If you’re good this way, you can continue with that. However, recently Google force updates Android Auto and Play Services no matter the settings you enabled.
Due to this, sometimes CarStream may not work as expected even after installed correctly and the developer suggested a workaround to resolve this issue.
Let’s get started..!
- Update Google Play Services and Android Auto
- Install CarStream v2.0.0 (link above)
- Open Android Auto on your phone (Don’t connect to your car)
If Developer mode is not enabled,
- Tap 3 bars (menu) on top left and then “About”
- Tap “About Android Auto” 10 times to enable Developer mode
- Tap 3 dots on top right, then “Developer Settings”
- Set Application Mode to “Developer”
- Make sure “Unknown Sources” is enabled at the bottom of this screen
After enabling developer mode,
- Go back, 3 dot menu on top right and tap “Start Head Unit Server”
- Connect your phone to the car and accept permissions
- Disconnect the phone and stop head unit server from your notification bar
- Open CarStream app
- Tap “Unlock[Root]” and grant root access when prompted
- Reboot the phone
- Once the phone is rebooted, connect it to your car, start Android Auto and check if CarStream is listed.
Black Screen Issue
Black screen when switching on CarStream occurs due to power saver mode on Android. Some phones refer to it as “Aggressive doze mode” or “Advanced battery optimization” mode. To prevent this, you can disable power saver mode entirely or just for the CarStream app.
Also, sometimes this can be done by opening CarStream on the phone and then connecting to the car. This trick will work on most Xperia and Huawei phones. Also, please note that some Huawei phones are not compatible with Android Auto in general where apps like Waze even don’t work. Make sure your phone is fully compatible with Android Auto.
CarStream Video and Audio Not Syncing
Mostly this could happen due to delay in wireless data transferring on Android Auto. Therefore, it’s advisable to use a cable connection instead of a wireless connection when streaming videos with Android Auto. Also, make sure you’re using a high quality cable which supports higher data transferring speeds.
Incompatible with Android 13
